IESA Speech Competition Information

Date & Time: Saturday, November 1, 2008; 8:15 am-11:00 am  

Place:    Lincoln Junior High School
                1320 South Olympus Drive
                Naperville, IL   60565

Student arrival at North: 6:00am.  The bus is coming at 6:15 am to pick the students and coaches up at North.  The bus will continue to South to pick up more students. 

Contest Schedule
The contest will begin promptly at 8:15 A.M.  We will hold three sessions.  Session 1 will be held from 8:15 to 9:00 A.M., Session 2 will be held from 9:15 to 10:00 A.M., and Session 3 will be held from 10:15 to 11:00 A.M.  A copy of your child’s room assignment and time will be provided closer to the date of the competition. 

Admission
Participants – free admission
K-8 students and senior citizens -- $1.00
Adults -- $2.00

Concessions and I.E.S.A. T-shirts
There will be concessions and I.E.S.A. t-shirts available in the “Tile” gym, beginning at 7:15 A.M. and continuing to the close of the competition. 

Spectators
Spectators are welcome at all performances.  Doors will be open between performances for interested parties to enter or leave.  No one will be permitted to enter or leave during a performance.  Please be quiet in the hallways where contestants are preparing to perform, and turn off all phones and pagers during performances.

Students must be at practice Tues., Wed., & Thurs. the week of the competition: Oct. 28, 29, &30.  Practice will be held until 4pm on Thursday.  We will go through each performance as practice for Saturday.  Parents are welcome to come and watch!

  Speech & Drama Team Information

Members of the MSN Speech & Drama Team are people who like to speak and perform in front of others.  The speech team is a competitive group who will participate in the State Speech Contest November 1st.  Students who join the team, must attend practice at least once a week with Miss Morgan.

Important Dates:

September 9-25: Sign up period.  Use this time to select competition pieces and form partnerships.  Final selections and partnerships should be recorded by Miss Morgan by September 25th for entry in the competition.

September 16- October 30: practice weekly with your group.  Miss Morgan is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for practice.  Monday or Friday practices may be made by appointment only.

November 1st:  IESA Regional Competition

Individual Events: poetry presentations, original speeches, storytelling, monologues, original oration

IMPROV Duets- Use your wits to create a funny or serious skit
 with a partner on the spot

DUETS- Present skits with a partner

SMALL GROUP ACTING- Perform a short play with
 3-5 students

CHORAL READING- Perform a set of poems with a group of
 9-20 students
