Science is interesting. We learn many things that will help us later in life. The class will do many labs and experiments to help us understand what we are learning and how it relates to real life.
The very first thing the teacher does is go over what the class learned in the years before: the Scientific Method
How to convert units in the metric system to other units.
The first main thing the class learns is physics.
What graphs mean and how they are used.
How things move because of gravity.
All the physics vocabulary like velocity and inertia.
How simple machines work.

What energy is.
After physics is chemistry.
Interactions of matter.
What elements and compounds are.
About atoms.
The periodic table.
How chemicals bond and react.
Then about environmental science.

The people in gifted are split up between math classes. About half are in geometry and about half are in Algebra I. Also kids that are not in the gifted team are in Geometry.
InAlgebra I you learn from the book most of the time. It goes mostly in order of what you learn during the year.

In Geometry the class does a lot of proofs. Proofs are really tedious because we have to write them all down in a T chart of Statements and Reason. The point of a proof is to logically prove something about a shape, angle, line, point or other part of a plane. Geometry is based on a deductive structure. It is a system where conclusions are justified by previously assumed or proved statements. It has undefined terms, postulates, definitions, and theorems. The curriculum follows the chapters in Geometry pretty closely, but it sometimes goes randomly.
Chapter One: Introduction to Geometry - The class will learn the basics of geometry.
Chapter Two: Basics Concepts and Proofs - Introductions to basic proofs.
Chapter Three: Congruent Triangles - All about triangles.
Chapter Four: Lines in the Plane - Learn to identify shapes on a plane.
Chapter Five: Parallel and Related Figures - Learn to recognize and prove things about polygons.
Chapter Fifteen: Inequalities - Apply inequalities to geometry.
Chapter Seven: Polygons - Formulas involving polygons.
Chapter Eight: Similar Polygons - Learn to compare and proportion polygons.
Chapter Nine: The Pythagorean Theorem - Learn to calculate the length of the hypotenuse of a triangle using the Pythagorean Theorem.
Chapter Ten: Circles - Recognize various things about circles.
Chapter Eleven: Area - Learn to calculate the areas of shapes.
Chapter Twelve: Surface Area and Volume - Find the surface area and volume of various shapes.

The class will read many interesting books in Literature. Here is the literature the class will read throughout the year.
The Gospel According to Larry
The Giver
I am the Cheese
Frankenstein
Edgar Allen Poe
Ender's Game
The Life of Pi
The Outsiders
A Midsummer Night's Dream
In Language Arts the class will learn to write good essays and will learn excellent grammar.
the class learn Literary Criticism in four ways:
Formalistic
Psychological
Sociological
Biographical
Literary Criticism is the act of interpreting literature. The class learns to go deeper into the meaning of books. This will help in our reading for high school, college and our independent reading.
The class will also learn the Socratic method of learning and teaching. The Socratic Method is a form of debate in which people start to understand the topic of the altercation in ways they wouldn't have before because they see the views of their peers. They impugn the other person's views and defend their own.
Throughout the year the class learns prefixes and suffixes that help us decipher the meanings of long words that we do not know. Every two weeks the class gets a new set of prefixes, suffixes, and words that make up the 100 word test that is given out two weeks later.
