Girl's basketball

Girl's basketball is broken up into two teams, 6/7th grade and 8th grade teams. The 6th/7th grade coach is Mr. Brown and the 8th grade coach is Ms. Chimino. The season takes place throughout the fall. Practices start after school and end at 4:00 p.m. this sport is a cut sport, so tryouts take place towards the end of August. Be sure to have a physical on file. 

Poms

Tryouts for poms begin at the end of the year, mostly in May. The coach is Ms. Cohen. YOU MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL ON FILE! If you make the team you spend time at a summer camp learning routines for the summer and you practice during the beginning of the next school year. You meet after school and you practice in one of the gyms or the cafeteria. All grades can try out.

Cross Country

Cross country is available to all grades and is no cut sport. The boys' coach is Mrs. Church and the girls' coach is
Mrs. Schoo Anyone with a physical file can join if they want. It is a fun sport to do, it keeps you fit and gives you endurance. Basically, cross country is a sport that you race long distances in. Our course is about 1.5 miles however, most courses are 2 miles. Cross Country practices are from 2:30 to 4:00 at the end of the foreign language hallway at the door.

Boy's Soccer

Tryouts begin the second week of school. You must sign up with Mr. Grimm and have a physical on file. Tryouts and practices usually go from 2:30 to 4:00. At least 16-18 will make the team. Listen for announcements for when and where the practices are at.

Cheerleading

Cheerleading is for people who have spirit and an energetic personality, so if this sounds like you then you should try out cheerleading. The coaches are Ms. Cohen and Mrs. Grandt. Remember, everybody and anybody can join cheerleading. To join cheerleading however, there are a few things that you need. you need a physical and passing grades (a D will get you out for a week and an F will get you out until you get your grades back up). Cheerleading takes place from Oct.-Jan. and tryouts take place about the middle of October.

Boy's Basketball

It starts usually in November and is after Girl's Basketball. 6th and 7th graders sign up for tryouts with Mr. Keegan. 8th graders sign up for tryouts with Mr. Grimm. Tryouts begin about the middle of October. You practice many drills including dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and sprints. It meets after school from 2:30 to 4:00. There's about 14+ games throughout the season and it ends in January.

Girl's volleyball

The coaches for Girl's volleyball are Mrs. Pope and Mrs. Milone. Girl's volleyball is a cut sport so tryouts are during the the beginning of January. Girl's Volleyball takes place from Jan.-March. To join Girl's Volleyball, you need: a physical, gym shoes, short and shirts, hair ties to put up your hair, and knee pads.

Boy's Volleyball

This is a tryout sport, so not all players will make the team. Tryouts begin in the beginning of January and the season ends in March. There's a 7th grade team and an 8th grade team. 6th graders can tryout for the 7th grade team. The head coach is Mr. Grimm so all info should be consulted with him. To tryout you must have a physical on file, have passing grades (no grades lower than a C) and be well behaved (no detention). You must also pay an athletic fee which will be decided by the coach. The season consists of 14 games and a final conference tournament. You are expected to arrive at every game and practice unless there is a reasonable excuse.

Scholastic Bowl

You can join in January and the sport ends in April. The coaches are Ms. Foreman and Mrs. Grandt. You practice once or twice a week and there's about 5+ meets. Teams consist of five players each and the middle player reads the answers to bonus questions. The questions are said out loud on a moderator. You answer the questions by hitting a buzzer and whoever's team hits their buzzer first gets to answer the question. To join you must have a good attitude, good trivia, and you have to pay an entry fee.

Wrestling

Wrestling is a fun sport, although there is a lot of conditioning any you are expected at every practice and game unless you have a reasonable excuse. The coaches are Mr. Boekholder and Mr. Taylor (retired teacher). Wrestling is a no cut sport, so anybody who wants to join wrestling can. Also, you need a physical on file, headgear, wrestling shoes, and passing grades. There is also a week right before the wrestling season that is optional but I recommend trying it out. During that week, you condition to get back in shape for the season.

Girl's Soccer

Girl's Soccer is a cut sport, so tryouts are during the beginning-middle of March. There are approximately 12 games and one tournament, practices are every day from 2:30-4:00. To try out for girl's soccer, you will need: a physical on file, passing grades no lower that a C, soccer cleats, shin guards, soccer T-shirt, and soccer shorts. The coach is
Mr. Grimm and this sport takes place in the fall.

Girl's Softball

The team consists of all grade levels. The coach is Mr. Keegan. The tryouts begin when Spring Break comes around and they go for 2 days. Call backs are on the second day. To tryout you must have a physical on file (or else you can't play), passing grades, appropriate clothing, and you must pay an athletic fee if you make the team. The fee is chosen by the coaches. Practices begin everyday after school from 2:30-4:00 and you must have your equipment (glove, bat, etc.). Games are determined by the schedule and go from 4:00 and until the game ends. Games are just about every week.

Girl's Track & Field

Girl's track & field is a no cut sport, so anybody who wants to join can. To join you need: a physical on file, passing grades of at least a C, and there is an athletic fee. Practices are almost every day from 2:30-4:00. The running events are: 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter  dash, 100 meter hurdles, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 4 by 100 relay, 4 by 200 relay, and 4 by 400 relay. The field events are: shot put, discuss, high jump, and long jump. The coach is Mrs. Russo.

Boy's Track & Field

To sign up (you don't try out), listen for announcements and hear if they mention the date of the Boy's informational meeting. From there you'll get an informational packet and you have to bring it to your parents. After you sign up you have to pay an athletic fee and sweatshirts and shorts fee. Give the money to one of the coaches: Mrs. Pope,
Mr. Brown, or Mr. Walsh. You MUST have a physical on file to join. Track begins in the Spring around spring break and meets everyday after school from 2:30-4:00. Track is relays and running while Field has small events including high jump shot put, discuss, high jump, and long jump.

Bowling

Bowling is an intramural sport which takes place throughout the time of December-March. The coaches for bowling are Mrs. Strand and Mrs. Mosoff, and these coaches will help you improve if necessary. For each trip to bowl (once a week), you will bowl 3 times and there will be 18 trips to bow. This sport is a no cut sport, so all you need to join is the entry fee.

Golf

This intramural sport begins in the fall and sometimes the spring. It's not a cut sport. Golf usually meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, after school from 3:00pm-5:00pm. It meets at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Palatine. Students have a total of 8 times of going and only 16 students can golf at a time. Students of all grades and boys and girls can join. It costs you an entry fee to go golfing and you have to provide your own means of transportation. Information can be consulted with the chaperone Mr. Prorok.
